Daniel Byrnes
Head Coach
After years of playing tennis at the highest level, he has now turned his attention to coaching, fuelling the passion for tennis in a new generation of players and helping them to excel.
Daniel’s tennis career started at a young age. He started training with his father in primary school and quickly discovered a passion and natural talent for the game. His skill was made apparent early in his career when he was ranked number 1 in Australia for under 18s and achieved an ATP ranking while still in high school.
When it came time to pick colleges, Daniel had his heart set on America. His natural talent for tennis allowed him to have his pick of schools. He opted for Oklahoma State University, a college that prides itself on its tennis facilities. Under the mentorship of Coach Wadley, Daniel had a successful career at OSU including holding a dual all-American division 1 college ranking (top 20). Daniel’s brother, Nathan, joined him at OSU a few years later and together the Byrnes brothers enjoyed a few successful seasons playing doubles before Daniel returned home.
Daniel has been busy since his move back to Melbourne. He has won the Victoria Hard Court Championships and Victorian Grass Court Championships twice each. He has also won the Victoria Clay Court Championships and numerous local and regional tennis tournaments.
While working with the Tennis Australia coaching teams at Melbourne Park, Daniel also gained his level 2 certificate in tennis coaching. Throughout his career, Daniel has also been an integral part of Kooyong Tennis Club.
Daniel is passionate about tennis and is excited to pass on his experience to a new generation of tennis stars
